Essential Oil Recipe for Depression and Anxiety

Updated: Feb 27

Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health concerns of our time (see my blog on anxiety and depression). The essential oils in this blend have been researched for their positive effect on the central nervous system in relieving depression and anxiety. There can be many reasons for a person to have depression and/or anxiety. It is advisable to seek assistance in identifying issues such as stress, hormonal or neurotransmitter imbalances, social isolation, seasonal affective disorder, various medical conditions, and certain medications, as they can contribute to symptoms of depression and anxiety. Identifying these factors can help in resolving the symptoms.

This is a general antidepressant blend. These essential oils have been researched for their positive effects on depression and anxiety. This is a very calming, relaxing blend and can also be used for insomnia, periodic stress, and restlessness. For a more personalized blend that addresses the factors listed above, contact me.

Seek professional help if depression becomes severe or if accompanied with thoughts of harming self.

  • 8 drops mandarin (Citrus reticulata) essential oil

  • 8 drops Texas cedarwood (Juniperus mexicana) essential oil

  • 8 drops lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil

  • 6 drops clary sage (Salvia sclarea) essential oil

  • 6 drops frankincense (Boswellia carterii)

  • 2 oz. good carrier oil (sesame, jojoba or olive oils)

Mix all ingredients together. Use an almond-sized amount to abdomen two to three times a day. The dilution rate (percentage of essential oils to carrier oils) is 3%, which is indicated for acute symptoms. You can also use this recipe for a nasal inhaler for an on-the-go boost. For this, use only the essential oils without the carrier oil. You can find blank nasal inhalers on Amazon. Using both the topical blend and the nasal inhaler is a powerful combination. Store all products in a cool, dark place for maximum shelf life.
