The summer can be a challenge in staying cool. Sunburn, heat exhaustion, and just getting too hot are issues for many of us during the hotter months. Aromatherapy can help with this.
Cooling essential oils:
Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is a cooling, uplifting essential oil.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is cooling and somewhat stimulating. It is contraindicated if there is a history of atrial fibrillation, however. In this case a good substitute would be spearmint (Mentha spicata).
Eucalyptus: there are several species of eucalyptus used in aromatherapy. Eucalyptus smithii or E. citriodora are cooling and pleasant. These oils stimulate the skin’s cold receptors for a cooling effect.
To make a simple spray:
• 6 drops lime essential oil
• 4 drops spearmint essential oil
• 4 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
• 1/2 teaspoon of polysorbate 20 (this is an emulsifier so the oils will mix with water and is available on Amazon)
1 oz water
Mix the oils together with the polysorbate, then mix this with the water and put in a spray bottle. Apply to face and limbs, avoiding eyes.
I would love to hear your results.
