Essential Oils for a Dreamy Night's Sleep: Recipe

Updated: Jan 12

There are many reasons to have sleep difficulties. Is it worry and over-thinking? Is it pain? Is it the sleep environment (too hot, too cold, too much light)? Is it a hormonal imbalance? Digestive problems will also affect sleep. It is important to answer these questions along with an objective investigation to those issues which may interfere with good sleep. The choice of essential oils will vary based on what you discover.

Additionally, what sleep problems are you having? Is it difficulty falling asleep? Do you fall asleep but wake up after a while? Do you wake up too early?

An aromatherapist can help you choose essential oils to address your specific issues (stress, pain, hormone imbalance, etc.). For a generic recipe consider this:

  • 2 drops lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil

  • 2 drops mandarin (Citrus reticulata) essential oil

  • 1 drop marjoram (Origanum majorana) essential oil

  • 2 teaspoons carrier oil such as olive, jojoba or sesame

Blend all ingredients and apply to temples and abdomen one to two hours before bedtime. This recipe is about a 2.5% dilution rate of essential oils to the carrier oil.
