It's May and here in Colorado things are blooming. For many, this may cause seasonal allergies. Sneezing, coughing, runny nose, itchy eyes may be plaguing folks right about now. There are 4 types of allergies and seasonal allergies are considered type 1.
Aromatherapy can help alleviate allergy symptoms. Notably, blue essential oils include a component with antiallergenic properties. This component turns the oil a striking, deep cobalt blue during the distillation process. Two such oils are blue tansy (Tanacetum annuum, distinct from Tanacetum vulgare, which has safety concerns and is typically not used in aromatherapy) and German chamomile (Matricaria recutita), which also has a deep blue hue.
In addition to the blue oils, there are others that can help with allergies. Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), melissa (Melissa officianalis), pine (Pinus sylvestris), and helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) can be used. Making a combination of these essential oils in a nasal inhaler can greatly reduce symptoms.
For some with seasonal allergies, it may be best to consult with a certified aromatherapist for recommendations for their specific symptoms. If I can help with this, contact me.
